A bit more often

Well, it seems that I have managed to update this thing twice in one month so far...what a huge step forward! To carry on all the good that has been happening I have now returned to work and have had my whole schedule turned upside down! It's actually nice to get back to work and start getting into a "routine", if there is such a thing with a new born. One of the nice things about getting back to work is talking to adults on a regular basis. I miss spending time with the wife and kids, but you do need time to get outside the house with other people. My wife has that ability on a regular basis with her sister in-law who lives around the corner from us...she is lucky in that respect. The down side to starting work again is not having the energy I would like after working 12 hours overnight. I wish I had the reserves to hop on my bike right away after work and hit the road...but not yet!

I am still trying to find routes that will not kill me every time I go for a ride...right now the only one is on the state trail which is covered in gravel. Both times I have decided to give it a whirl I end up flatting from the damn sharp stones. One thing I am excited to try is a new program on my phone...it uses the GPS receiver in my phone and tracks it...calculating speed, distance, elevation and route. It then sends it to an on-line program for me to either download or use from there. It sounds like it could be nice for drawing up route maps and stuff, as well as the elevation of the climbs around here. It's just been so rainy around here lately that I have not had a chance to get out on the bike. And not just little sprinkles either, down pours most of the days. And since I am not racing right now it does not bother me that much to be stuck inside or off the bike here and there. Time to get ready for another exciting nights work...later!

Happy News

It's been a great couple of weeks!!! The birth of my 3rd child, a daughter, about 16 days ago has rejuvenated my love for life! It also has allowed me to get back on my bike a bit more now that I am not taking care of a lot of things around the house. My work schedule has also changed for the better. I am working 12-hour nights from 7pm-7am, which means I only work 3 days a week. That equals some nice riding time.

Getting back on the bike has been pretty nice to say the least. I have not really been killing myself, just trying to get my legs back and see I how it goes. Moving out to Mt. Horeb has opened up some new doors for me in terms of training. Out here there is no where you can go without having to do some kind of climbing! Just yesterday I went out for a short 20 miles and ended up doing almost 4 miles of climbing. Needless to say I hurt after that one.

I go back to work on Friday for the first time in almost 3 weeks...it's really crazy to think it's been that long since I have been there. I have a fear that I am going to be rusty as all get out, but I have a feeling it will all come back pretty quick.
